Who here is familiar with MobileMe?
Anyone?
Maybe it's just me. But to those who were able to reply "yes" to the first question, kudos. If not, what are you waiting for? It's time to switch! As they say: "Once you switch to Mac, there's no going back."
Little side-tracking there, my apologies. A little background history: I previously was owner of an insignificant website powered by MobileMe by Apple, Inc. Although I personally found potential in the idea, I was not able to prosper as I sadly no longer held a MobileMe account. Oh well, life goes on. I guess this will have to do. Although, I doubt I'll be one of those people who become famous by blogging. Julie&Julia anyone?
Speaking of which; Yes! We watched that in French class. France and French culture, how intriguing you are to me. So much, in fact, that I'm even considering the opportunity to study abroad in France for an entire year. (Point of entire blog - ✓)
Now, mind you, I have done my research on it. Research meaning typing "student exchange programs / study abroad programs" on Google and merely looking at the top three hits. However, I think I found one which appeals to me, AFS: American Field Service.
Why does it appeal to me out of the rest? Well for one, it provided me with better details and description than the others whose sites merely were confusing and already wanted you to apply. I liked how AFS seemed as if it were aimed specifically towards teens and thus I felt more comfortable with it. Additionally, the whole concept of blogging for experience stories to be included by real teens seemed awesome. That also played a great deal of inspiration to start my own. That is, already assuming that I was accepted within the program, performed all the necessary work and preparation, and finally, travelled to France. Ha, I have high expectations. Although, I know that it motivates me to keep going.
Oh, and also the fact that AFS gives you orientations, their excellent support staff and guidance, as well as check-up's while in the foreign country all contributed to my decision to decide to inquire within that organization for studying abroad.
Of course, with just about anything major I do, I had to have cleared it with my parents. At first, I didn't think they took this whole thing seriously. Now, however, they do seem to take it seriously and encourage me to inquire about it and they even ask questions. Yet, I also have my questions that have yet to be answered. As a result, I requested their free information brochure/kit/whatever to be sent home. Hopefully, that gives a more in-depth overview of the entire ordeal so that I fully convince my parents, and myself, by answering some much answer-needed questions. Yes, I realised there was a live-chat feature. But, in order for me to even ask anything, I must first formulate every question and pass it by through my guidance counsellor.
Another reason I am waiting for that kit/brochure/something to arrive. (I'm losing patience by the day.) With it, I hopefully can make my decision to go through with it and then run it by my guidance counsellor for well, guidance. Then, I can start the application process and all the work. That means forms, scholarship forms, visas, fundraising, and other preparation practises. Fun, right?
I'm not sure if it's a requirement to write a blog to share your experiences if you've won a scholarship for the program, (I've only seen one reference insinuating that.) Yet, either way I was planning on it.
If I don't have the opportunity to do the entire program, surely I'd be sad. Accordingly, this would just be.....Well, at least, I can say I tried. That's what matters, no? No? Fine.
